To participate in iDEC, you will need to register a team and register for the iDEC Festival.

iDEC registration channel will open on Mar 1

On this page, you will find information on how to:

(1) Register your personal account

Welcome to your iDEC adventure!

As a first step, you will need to register your personal account (Available from March 1 to May 1).

To register a personal account, please prepare the following information:

  • Real Name
  • Email address (a confirmation email will be sent to this address)
  • Password
  • School or Organization
  • Country or Region
  • Position Category
    • High School Student
    • Undergraduate Student
    • Masters Student
    • Doctoral Student
    • Post-Doctoral
    • High School Teacher
    • Professor

If you will be the Primary Supervisor, please provide additional information:

  • Lab or office address
  • Phone number
  • Address to lab website or faculty webpage

(2) Register your team


  1. To begin with, please select a Team Name.

    (Please be respectful. We will reject names or abbreviations that contain discriminatory, insulting, or political connotations.)

  2. Please provide the information on the team's affiliations:

    • Affiliated school name(s)

      It is acceptable to have more than one school and/or lab in one team

    • Affiliated school address(es), in terms of Country/Region, State/Province, City, and/or Postcode.

      For international teams or teams involving more than one school/lab, please provide all affiliated addresses.

    • A deliverable postal address

      Please ensure the address can receive parcels as the iDEC HQ may ship materials to this mailing address.

    • The team's social media accounts, if available
  3. Please add the personal accounts (via their registered email addresses) to the team roster, and indicate the roles of the team members.

    Options include:

    • iDEC Player

      Available for students (High school / Undergraduate / Master's / PhD students). This role takes primary responsibility for idea creation, project design, performing experiments, and presenting results.

    • iDEC Team Leader

      Available for students. The team leader is responsible for coordinating and organizing the team.

    • Primary Supervisor

      The person who provides supervision for iDEC players, potential funds, lab, equipment, and agents, etc. Faculty members (e.g., University Professors), teachers (e.g., biology teachers in high school), or researchers from the biotech industry or a public research institution can take on this role. The primary supervisor must assume responsibility for the lab.

    • Mentor

      People who can give technical advice during iDEC or provide suggestions during every step in iDEC. We suggest senior students or postdocs for this position.

    • Advisor

      People who are not involved in the iDEC project directly but can provide valuable suggestions.

    Every team must have at least one Primary Supervisor and one Team Leader.

  4. Please submit information on Biosafety Condition Verification.

    iDEC teams will need to ensure that measures for biosafety and hazard control are in place. The iDEC HQ requires the teams to treat safety issues with utmost seriousness and offer the best possible working conditions to iDEC participants. The primary supervisors must provide the biosafety consent forms during team registration

Team Registration Deadline:

All iDEC members need to create their iDEC accounts and then enroll on their team roster before the registration deadline on May 1, 2021. And, the iDEC HQ may contact the team supervisor directly to confirm the registration details via phone or email.


(3) Register in the iDEC festival

The registration and payment channel for iDEC Festival will be opened on June 15 and will be closed on July 15.


(4) Pay the registration fees

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, banking operations have been postponed. Therefore, our registration fee charging window has been revised to: May 1 to June 1. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The payment channel for team registration will closed on June 1.

The registration and payment channel for iDEC Festival will be opened on June 15 and will be closed on July 15. (Festival registration fee waived for iDEC 2021)

An early-bird registration fee is available for the first 20 teams to register for the iDEC competition.

Team registration fees for iDEC 2021:

  • Early-bird Registration: £ 500 (Available for the first 20 registered teams)
  • Regular Registration: £ 1000 (Applicable after the first 20 registered teams)

iDEC Festival Fees:

  • £ 100 per iDEC participant (waived for iDEC 2021)
